Bakersfield Mist run is dedicated to someone who we have lost this past year, Scott Phinney. We would like to honor his contribution triangle as a patron and as a Board Member.

Mona St Clair, his wife has shared his bio with us:

William Scott Phinney was born in Los Angeles on March 20, 1958, to Dr. Bernard Orin Phinney and Sally Ball Phinney.  Scott grew up in a house on Bundy Avenue (across the street from where O.J. Simpson allegedly killed his ex-wife) with beautiful gardens and a couple of chickens, a goose, and two beagles.

Following his parents’ divorce, Sally remarried Richard Bush.  They relocated the family to a 40-acre nursery in Canby, Oregon, specializing in conifers.  Scott was beginning high school at the time and was quite unhappy at being exiled from L.A. to a farm in Canby.  During his years in Canby, Scott was active in Boy Scouts, earning the designation of Eagle Scout.  Scott attended the world jamboree overseas in the early ’70s.  A highlight of the trip was attending the birthday party of the Prince of Morocco.  Scott was given a leather pouf by the King, which he treasured.

Scott excelled in school, was head of the debate team, played flute in the orchestra, was the winner of an Odd Fellows cross country trip, and was a National Merit Scholar finalist.  During summers, Scott worked on his parents’ farm, as well as some neighboring farms.

Scott graduated from Yale University with a bachelor’s degree in political science.  This was followed by law school at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.  Scott had a 30+ year career as a tax attorney both in public and private practice.  He was instrumental in the creation of the Magistrate Division of the Oregon Tax Court.

Scott is survived by his wife, Mona St. Clair, stepmother, Jean Phinney, two step-children Stephen Way (Cassandra Beck), Emily Bavaro (Joshua Bavaro), one sister (Katcha Burnett), and two brothers (Peter Phinney and David Phinney) and five grandchildren.

THE STORY: Maude [Helen Raptis], a fifty-something unemployed bartender living in a trailer park, has bought a painting for a few bucks from a thrift store. Despite almost trashing it, she’s now convinced it’s a lost masterpiece by Jackson Pollock worth millions. But when world-class art expert Lionel Percy [Michael Fisher-Welsh] flies over from New York and arrives at her trailer home in Bakersfield to authenticate the painting, he has no idea what he is about to discover. Inspired by true events, this hilarious and thought-provoking comedy-drama asks vital questions about what makes art and people truly authentic.
