Lucille Lortel-nominated playwright Donnie has written a play not many know about.
Kenneth Battelle was a legendary American hairdresser who revolutionized the beauty industry. And has been given the title of the first “celebrity” hairdresser, and was known to his high-profile clients as only Mr. Kenneth.
He was a famous New York hairdresser whose client list was filled with many who's who of high society befriends Jacqueline Kennedy when her husband John runs for Congress, and several years later, meets Marilyn Monroe whose hair has begun to fall out because of over bleaching for her role in The Seven Year Itch and was her stylist in some very important moments, such as singing Happy Birthday in 1962 to JFK.
Though neither meet each other, the one person that shares their world at the same time is Kenneth Battelle.
Jacqueline, or Jackie as we know her, brought Mr. Kenneth to the to the White House after the inauguration of John F. Kennedy on January 20, 1961, and had and access to the White House becoming "Secretary of Grooming" to the Kennedy administration.
His client list included Princess Margaret, Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn, Shirley McClaine, and Lucille Ball, who would walk into his salon calling out, “Where’s God!”
